License to Bake

In 2018, the State of CT created a process to apply for a Cottage Food License which allows individuals to sell food prepared in a home kitchen. I’ve been following this license since CT started considering it – and this past week our license for Ridge Roast baked goods was approved! The actual trailer is so tiny that we can not prepare foods in it, but we will be offering baked goods that are prepared in our home kitchen. Sticking with the farm focus of Ridge Roast, we’ll be using Harris Hill Farm pumpkin & squash as a main ingredient in the items. We’re currently experimenting with recipes and planning for the goodies we’ll be serving.

Power!

Luckily – our handyman Adam is also a licensed electrician and got everything in this old trailer re-wired. He even added some cool plugs that have direct USB charging for all of our devices!

It’s all in the details

One of Adam’s (our #1 handyman) favorite things to work on is trim work and making the small details perfect. I think he has pretty good attention to detail – don’t you agree?! Check out the detail on these windows in the trailer. The vent in the ceiling is one of my favorite parts.

Counters & Cabinets

With the structure for counters installed, we added trim and new cabinet doors. We opted for a solid laminate countertop which will be easy to keep clean. Wilsonart has tons of gorgeous patterns, but this faux barn wood print will look great in the coffee trailer once everything else is finished!

Interior Reno

While I really love the leopard print fabric on these couch cushions that probably date back to the 1950’s, we need more counter space in the coffee trailer. We also added more structure to the walls and sagging roof. The windows are all in good spots, we just opened one up a little more to make a serving window. The vision is starting to take shape!

Introducing…

…the Ridge Roast coffee trailer! At the Harris Hill Farm pumpkin patch, we always get asked if we sell beverages. After some brainstorming about the best way to offer drinks on a farm, we decided on a food truck! We watched CraigsList for a while and picked up this cool old camper trailer in Thomaston. It is about 5’x8′ and less than 6′ high, so very tiny – but should be perfect for serving coffee. Looking forward to starting the work on it!
